Movement and understanding sit at the centre of recovery

Cameron is a musculoskeletal Physiotherapist who has worked with people ranging from those new to movement through to elite athletes. He enjoys identifying the underlying factors contributing to pain or dysfunction and helping people return to everything they want to do.

As his career developed, Cameron came to see movement and understanding as central to recovery. His approach is to help people understand why they are experiencing pain or injury, then teach them the movement, exercise and self-management skills required to move forward.

In practice that means fewer mysteries and more explanation. If you leave an appointment able to describe what is going on, what you are working on and why, the plan is far more likely to work — and far more likely to keep working once the appointments stop.

The reason

Why TLP Physio exists

The open TLP Physio treatment-room door inside Never Quit South Brisbane, with the TLP Physio sign on the door and the treatment room visible through the doorway.

Too many people finish a course of treatment without ever understanding what was wrong, or come to believe that staying well depends on booking the next appointment. Others quietly accept lost strength, mobility or confidence as an unavoidable part of getting older.

TLP Physio was created on the view that most people have far more agency over their physical health than they have been led to believe. Given a clear explanation, a plan that fits their life and the right progression, people are usually capable of more than they expect.

The goal is to build understanding, capacity and confidence — not an ongoing dependence on treatment.

What TLP stands for

TLP is short for The Lifting and Pilates Physio — a nod to the two groups Cameron has spent much of his career alongside. People who lift, and people who practise Pilates, both tend to care about how they move. That is a good starting point for rehabilitation.

The name is also a fair description of how Cameron works. Rehabilitation here draws on two toolkits: the strength and loading principles of gym-based training, and the movement approaches that come from Pilates.

The two complement each other. Where a gym-based exercise does not quite address what someone needs, a Pilates-based exercise will often fill the gap — and just as often it works the other way around. Having both to hand means the plan can be built around the person rather than around a single method.

In practice

What that looks like in an appointment

  1. Restore Capacity

Address the physical limitations behind the problem — mobility, strength, control and tolerance to load.

  2. Restore Ownership

Understand what is happening and why, and learn the self-management skills to handle it without guesswork.

  3. Restore Performance

Rebuild the specific qualities your training, sport or golf actually asks of you.

  4. Maintain Freedom

Keep the capacity you have built so you can carry on doing the things you care about.
